After church on Sunday, we all decided we wanted to play some games. Usually we would invite some friends over to play with us but the ones we knew would be okay with getting together to play games on Sunday were not home. And we didn't want to offend people by inviting them over on Sunday if they weren't comfortable with it. So it was just us this time. Which is okay too.
I used my new Whirley Pop (stove top popcorn maker) to make some fun new kinds of popcorn. We made Kettle Corn (my favorite if it's stove top fresh), and Victorian Pink Mint Popcorn (also good made over the stove). And we also made some traditional microwave popcorn for those who are not brave enough to try something new, or maybe just don't like sweet popcorn.
(For recipes see bottom of this post.)
We had a great time playing "Whoonu". We all love this game because we find out just how well we know each other. It's always good for a laugh too.
Harrisen doesn't quite get the rules of the game but he sure enjoyed the popcorn!
I'm glad we can have fun times just spending time together and enjoying each others company. I have a great family and I love to spend time playing with them.
Victorian pink mint popcorn:
about 20 hard starlight mints crushed to a fine powder. (some small pieces okay)
1 c. miniature marshmallows
1/4 tsp salt
Mix together in a small bowl and have ready for when done popping corn.
1/4 . popping corn
1/4 c. oil (I use less, about half that)
1/4 c. sugar
put oil popcorn and sugar in stove top popper. pop on med heat until popping almost stops. remove from heat and quickly dump in peppermint mixture. close lid and continue stirring with no heat until mixed well. (This cools fast. If it gets too cool, pour into microwave safe bowl and warm in microwave for about 30 seconds then mix with spoon.)
Kettle Corn
1/3 c. popping corn
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. oil
about 2 tbsp. salt
Pour all ingredients into popper and pop over med heat. (Med-low if gas burner never higher). remove from heat when popping slows. Pour into bowl (sprinkle with small amount of sugar and salt while hot if desired.)

Okay, next time you need company on a Sunday to play games, give us a call - or maybe sometime you should bring your family over here for a game night (since we bombarded your house last!) Put us on the not-offended-to-play-games-on-a-Sunday list! That is the greatest thing to do on a Sunday! Looks like fun. Really, lets play sometime!
