I can't believe how low the water is in the Great Salt Lake! we were half way across the causeway before we saw more that just a puddle here or there. By the time we made it to the swim area, we realized we were in for quite a walk to get to the water. We finally made it out to the waters edge, and the kids headed out into the murky waters despite the stink (not to mention the bugs).
As Michele and I sat in our chairs on the edge of the water, trying to take pictures and still keep the camera dry, this was the best we could get. I zoomed the camera in as far as it would go for this one.
So we ended up venturing into the disgusting water to get some better shots.
Even as far out as they all were this is as deep as the water was. I didn't even have to roll my shorts up yet.
Mike and Martin skipped rocks for a while before deciding to see if they could swim/ float to the island across the way.
It took them over 3 hours by the way. I'm glad we told the kids they had to stay with us. They would have never made it that far.
Harrisen liked throwing the mud from the bottom of the lake at everyone. The only problem was . . . every time he reached into the water to get more his butt kept floating to the top and he would loose his balance. Too funny to watch! But he was having a blast.
The last picture I got before my battery died (it seem to be doing that a lot lately, it must be time for a new battery).

After the water play we had a picnic of pizza at the Bowery, and let the kids play in the sand. I think the sand is the best part of the visit to the island because its so soft and clean (there's kind of an oxi-moron, clean sand, but it really is). The kids built sand castles and buried each other in the sand. I was very sad that I could not take and pictures of the fun they were having.
Despite the smell of brine shrimp and all the bugs, we all had a great time at Antelope Island, although I hope next time the water level is higher. That seems to help with both of those problems.
BTW: I don't think Mike or Martin plan on trying to make the swim to the other island again any time in the near future. They are both too sore, and have no desire to be bombed by any more seagulls.

You are brave! I have absolutely no desire to go swimming in that nasty water! You were brave to go and even get near the water. The bugs would do me in. No thank you!:) And the dive bombing thing - that is why I HATE seagulls!!!
i have never been to antelope island, but now I'll have to check it out...while i have a cold, so that sulfur smell doesn't over take my senses.
